Richard (Dickie) joined the band at the age of 9 years in 1940 on cornet but transferred to trombone in 1944. As well as remaining loyal to Cockerton, Dickie has played with various orchestras including the National Youth Orchestra. Dickie has occupied the principle trombone seat for 50 years, taking over from Gladney his father a noted trombone player who took over from Dickies Great Uncle Daniel around the time of the First World War. In all the Harrisons have sat in the same seat for over 100 years. In 2000, before entirely losing his marbles (his words not mine!) Dickie wrote and published a brief and illustrated history of Cockerton Band entitled "Good Old Cockerton".

Ian Jackson - 2nd Trombone
Alan Oakley - 2nd Trombone
Ian’s musical career started in 1967 when he was given the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument at school – unfortunately for his parents this involved a violin!!. Imagine their joy when in 1975 he then decided to take up the trombone – this lead to the family cat moving back into the house and the dog moving out.
Ian’s brass band career started with Shildon Railway Band in 1975 and then he played with the West Auckland Band and the Shildon Town Band before he was asked to join Cockerton in 1985 where he has been ever since when work permits.
